About This Item

FAMILY TRADITION

Driving for the famed Wood Brothers Racing team, A.J. Foyt won the 1972 Daytona 500 race by the largest margin of victory in its history. A.J.’s dominant performance in America’s greatest stock car race confirmed that he was truly one of the greatest drivers ever.

In this spirit, Foyt Family Wines No.72 Meritage was created.

Meritage is a classification reserved for red or white wines crafted solely from specific “noble” grape varieties and are considered to be the very best wines of the vintage.

Vintage Summary
This outstanding (not to mention delicious) wine is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 6% Merlot that was sourced from the famed Chalk Hill and Alexander Valley appellations in northern Sonoma County.  All of the fruit is pressed firmly to extract the deeper tannins in the skins.  The wine is aged in a blend of French and Pennsylvania oak, 30% of which is new, with the remainder in neutral Hungarian oak barrels. Each varietal was fermented separately to allow maximum expression and optimum blending opportunities.

TASTING NOTES
Dark blackberry and spicy plum flavors dominate the palate coupled with black cherry and blackberry aromatics with a hint of cassis and Asian spice.  The wine has a very smooth finish with an introduction of just a touch of chocolate.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Enjoy lightly chilled as an aperitif, with cheese, crab, lobster and other seafood.
